WAF Joins the International Sport for All Federation

The World Armwrestling Federation (WAF) is proud to announce that has joined the International Sport for All Federation (FISpT) as a new Committee Member. Within FISpT, each unique sport is represented by a single global governing body, and WAF is thrilled to begin this beautiful partnership to promote inclusive and accessible physical activity worldwide.

As an IOC-recognized organization, FISpT works closely with international partners to expand “Sport for All” opportunities. This new collaboration focuses on grassroots development, recognizing armwrestling as a sport that perfectly combines deep community roots with a modern, dynamic approach to mass participation.

A Sport for Everyone, Anywhere

Armwrestling perfectly embodies the core values of the “Sport for All” movement. Because it requires simple equipment, the discipline can be seamlessly integrated into:

  • Urban events and street sports festivals.
  • School sports and youth recreation programs.
  • Community parks and outdoor multi-sport setups.

WAF currently unites more than 90 member countries, coordinating programs for men, women, youth, and masters athletes. Whether practiced at an elite world-championship level or as a casual strength challenge in a local park, armwrestling bridges communities and promotes healthy, lifelong participation.

“Beginning this beautiful partnership with FISpT is a major milestone for our global development. Armwrestling requires minimal equipment, making it one of the most accessible sports on earth. Together, we will focus on expanding grassroots initiatives, para-armwrestling, and school programs to bring the sport to every community.” Assen Hadjitodorov – WAF President

“This partnership allows us to bridge the massive gap between ‘Sport for All’ and elite performance. Armwrestling truly addresses everyone; it is a unique sport where children, parents, and grandparents can safely practice and enjoy the challenge together, whether at a community event or right in the backyard of their house.” Mircea Simionescu-Simicel, WAF General Secretary

Joint Initiatives Ahead

Moving forward, WAF and FISpT will collaborate on several key grassroots and educational projects:

  • Coach Education: Advancing global training standards.
  • Para-Armwrestling: Expanding inclusive opportunities for athletes with disabilities.
  • Youth & School Initiatives: Engaging the next generation in schools and clubs.

Through this partnership, WAF continues its mission to showcase armwrestling not just as a highly regulated, competitive strength sport, but as a universal tool for international friendship, fair play, and physical well-being.
